All Hail the Whale

Behold: The protection you'll need when it's colder than Hell. Hell, Michigan, that is. A few winters back it froze over, setting a windchill record of -27°F. Our Whaleback Parka is named for the whaleback steamers that once shouldered aside wind, sleet and snow on the Great Lakes, and tough enough for any job without sacrificing mobility. This jacket is unbelievably warm, thanks to super-efficient Thinsulate™ insulation throughout. And the design includes wicking panels at the back and armpits to keep you drier where you sweat the most. If you work where winter's as wild as Lake Superior, this parka'll do ya.

Great!

I love this coat so much! Super warm. And a really great fit!! I'm mostly here to say DONT SIZE DOWN! Especially if you plan on layering! I'm a size 14 pretty typical hour glass fluffy. If I want something fitted I'm a large. If I want it roomy I'm an XL. I knew that I'd want to layer under this coat and my gut said XXL. But I read the runs big reviews and went with XL. It's SNUG if I put a hoody under it. Granted…. It's REALLY warm… so I don't necessarily NEED a hoody or ton of layers under it. But if your a layer-er like me. Go with your normal size at the very least.

Exactly what I wanted, just too big.

I just got this jacket today and already love it. It is stiff and my jacket came with a weird smell that I'm hoping washes out, but I like how it seems to be water resistant. I have not yet taken the tags off only due to the sizing. It runs HUGE! I normally buy a size medium jacket so I can wear my insulated bibs under, and the size small is even big. Debating returning it for the XS sizing. I wore it around the house and it as extra toasty. I love all the pockets and the zipper was no problem for me. I actually love the fact that I can unzip from the bottom as I plan to use this as a barn jacket and this way I can ride in it by unzipping the bottom to sit in my saddle. I didn't feel there was too much Velcro as mentioned in other comments. I do agree though that magnets instead would be nicer, but ultimately not a deal breaker for me. My ONLY, single complaint is the sizing. I wish I had gone with an XS but thought just one size down was good enough. I'm 5'1 and this jacket is longer than it should be on me.

Just say no to VELCRO

Ugh! This coat has so, so many excellent features. I love all the pockets, here, there and everywhere, many with zippers. Yay! The material is stiff but I know it would stand up to wind, rain and snow. But the VELCRO. Too much velcro ruined this jacket for me so I'm returning it. Everything gets stuck on it. So sad a most excellent coat is ruined. I wish the research and development team would combine some of the features of this coat with the arctic puffer. The puffer needs more zippered pockets.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

Too much velcro

Very warm parka. Excellent quality material. Just too much velcro. Returned it because of all the velcro down the front zipper. Caught on other fabrics snagging them and the velcro seemed to catch and hold every stray anything that crossed it's path making it look dirty. If velcro were magnets instead would definitely buy again and keep.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

I just tried this parka out in crazy cold temps & windchill this weekend. Not one part of me that was covered was cold!! I hate feeling too bulky and this jacket is big but just right.
