Men's Sutter's Mill Jacket
In 1848, a worker at Sutter’s Mill in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas struck the vein of precious metal that would set off the California Gold Rush. It just so happens that you’ve discovered a gold mine, too – a real mother lode of temperature-taming function! This jacket’s advanced insulation works harder as temperatures drop. Even better, the Temp Tamer lining contains active particles embedded in the fabric that keep you in your comfort zone – removing sweat to cool you without feeling wet or trapping heat to maintain your ideal core body temperature in cold conditions. Handsome and practical quilt stitching secures the 90-gram polyfill insulation – creating a trim layer that manages your body’s microclimate, yet never gets in the way of work or play.

I purchased the Sutters Mill jacket to replace a canvas field jacket (aka barn coat) from another vendor. I wanted what the field jacket lacked: substantial enough but lighter weight, insulated so that there's some warmth, and water resistant. This jacket fits the bill; it is very nice looking (the dark brown corduroy collar is similar to the field jacket), it is much warmer and I'll see just how water repellant it is later this week in light rain. The fit (XXL) is perfect and it still has enough room for a sweater or sweatshirt underneath. I wore just a Duluth flannel shirt underneath today and it kept me warm enough in upper 30 degree weather. The deep moss color (olive or military green) is also very nice, and the jacket's material on the outside is unique. I thought it would be just nylon or polyester quilting, but it's a cottony blend which gives it a bit more heft and durability. The only thing that might be added is a front zipper in addition to the snaps, to avoid any "leaks" when it's windy. The outer zipped chest pocket can hold a cellphone while the inner pocket can hold other stuff plus a pen. The handwarmer pockets are large enough to carry gloves and a hat. This Sutters Mill jacket is sure to be a winner!

Warm and comfortable overall but runs big. Normally wear a large but went with medium. Slightly snugger than I like but better fit than large. Can still wear sweatshirt underneath. Lacks drawcord at bottom hem. Cuffs are ok but would prefer stand up collar like the Sutters Mill vest has. Pockets are very good, includes room interior pocket as well as three exterior pockets. Have worn in 20-30 degree weather and was comfortable with additional of neck gator or scarf with wind blowing.
Bought two of them during the recent sale. One for myself and another for one of my sons. Quality, warm and stylish all wrapped up in Duluth fashion. Great color and looks good as a daily jacket or going out for evening dinner. Big plus is wife really likes the jacket.
I love the pockets and the smooth lining that slides over my flannels and sweaters. I ordered the mens jacket because of this and because it came in a tall version. The sleeve cuffs are half stretch and snug which is great for outdoor work!
