STORY
When steam pushed ocean liners from one continent to another, the radio room of each vessel had a clock much like this. It marked four 3-minute periods of radio silence each hour – one color for each emergency radio band – to monitor for distress calls. Now, good methods have staying power. So as steam and Morse code fell out of use, the 3-minute maritime silence was continued for nearly 100 years. We expect the radio room clock design to live quite a bit longer. Ours is made of polished brass with a mineral glass face and can be mounted to the wall of your workshop or office. It’s more reliable than its mechanical forebears as well, with a modern quartz movement to keep the time. The interior can even be used as a stash box, supposing you have items to keep away from the watchful eye of your quartermaster.
