The Blind Woodsman by John and Anni Furniss
Imagine turning off all the lights in your workshop, firing up the lathe and proceeding to turn a delicate bowl in total darkness. Odds are you’d emerge with a misshapen hunk of wood and fewer than 10 fingers. But this is exactly how John Furniss, known as the Blind Woodsman, creates his impeccable and beautiful wood-turned works of art. Blinded by a suicide attempt at age 16, Furniss gradually overcame depression, drug addiction, injuries and epilepsy to find his purpose on the other side of darkness. Together with his wife, fellow artist Anni, Furniss describes his journey from despair to a life of joy, connection and fulfillment. Now dedicated to helping others dealing with daunting challenges, John and Anni’s story is a celebration of resilience and a tribute to the human capacity for growth and transformation.
